Police want to grill SIMI chief Nagori

The Delhi Police would be seeking the remand of SIMI chief Safdar Nagori to gather more details about the serial blast case that rocked the city on Saturday, reports Vijaita Singh.

The police feel Nagori, who was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Police in March 2008, may have vital information about the blasts.

Apart from Nagori they would also seek the remand of four others –– Abdul Sibley, Hafeez Hussain, Kamruddin Nagori and Amil Pervez –– for interrogation.

All of them are presently in the custody of the Ahmedabad police in connection with 17 serial blasts that took place on July 26.

“We would definitely seek Nagori’s remand. There are certain aspects to the case that only he can reveal,” said a senior police officer.

Nagori, said to be the key conspirator behind the Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Hyderabad blasts, belongs to a family of transporters in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. He joined SIMI more than 10 years ago.

Investigators probing the serial blasts said the arrests made by the Ahmedabad police were still a tip of the iceberg. The “real executioners” are still at large, said an officer.

“Whatever investigations we have done till now suggests they had ample local support in Delhi. This is quite alarming. After SIMI was banned in 2001, most of their supporters had gone underground or left Delhi. Many of them had moved to Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country,” said the officer.

“We have interrogated several former members of SIMI and are continuously conducting raids to bust the racket. We are hopeful of getting vital clues soon,” said the officer.
