Polluting cars face action, 1,000 penalised

The Delhi transport department has penalized almost 1,000 car owners in its ongoing drive against polluting vehicles since November 8.

The Delhi transport department has penalized almost 1,000 car owners in its ongoing drive against polluting vehicles since November 8.

Transport department officials said their nine enforcement teams issued 1588 challans to 916 vehicles for not carrying pollution under control certificates and for violating permit rules.

The enforcement teams also stopped 27 vehicles that were visible emitting smoke and were issued 39 challans. "We issued challans to a number of diesel-run private cars. The special drive will continue for a few more days," said a senior official.
