Prajapati case: SC to take up Cop’s bail plea

The Supreme Court on Monday will take up the bail application of Gujarat cadre IPS officer Vipul Agarwal, who has been in custody for the last two years for helping the conspirators of Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case.

The Supreme Court on Monday will take up the bail application of Gujarat cadre IPS officer Vipul Agarwal, who has been in custody for the last two years for helping the conspirators of Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case.

Despite his prolonged incarceration, no formal charges have been made out against him by the CBI. Agarwal was the SP of Banaskantha, where the encounter took place.

The Gujarat Police arrested Agarwal in May 2010. The case was later transferred to the CBI. Prajapati was an associate of alleged gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh, who also became witness to his alleged fake encounter by the Gujarat Police.

Prajapati was gunned down in an alleged fake encounter on December 28, 2006 near Ambaji in Banaskantha district. In all 14 policemen have been arrested in the case. The CBI was asked to probe the Prajapati case in April 2011. But the agency is yet to file a chargesheet in the case.
