Mukherjee was in Solapur to inaugurate a research centre at Ashwini Medical College.
“I request everyone to maintain peace and calm and call upon the authorities to take necessary steps to bring the perpetrators of this ghastly crime to justice,” said Mukherjee, adding that he was distressed by the woman’s death. He also said that government was standing by the family of the victim.
The President further added that all possible precautions must be taken to prevent such incidents from being repeated. “Let us resolve that her death is not in vain. We will do everything in our capacity to ensure that such an incident never takes place again,” he said.
Mukherjee said that the next Five Year Plan allocated 300% extra funds to the health sector, to enable the government to bring the latest health facilities available in foreign countries to India.
