"DGCA has ordered a probe into the incident," a civil aviation ministry spokesperson said.

The Air India aircraft with 45 passengers and an IAF transporter IL-76 came dangerously close to each other on Tuesday. Both were flying at an altitude of about 17,000 feet over Jorhat in upper Assam.

The DGCA is also probing an incident where choppers from President Pratibha Patil's convoy came in the way of an Air India aircraft at Mumbai airport Monday.
