While the Faculty of Arts passed the semester syllabus for BA (Hons) Psychology on Monday, the teachers opposed to the implemen-tation claimed the meeting ended abruptly and was not conducted properly.

With the passing of BA (Hons) Psychology, the only two courses out of 14 under the Faculty of Arts that have not passed the semester syllabi are BA (Hons) English, and Germanic and Romance studies.

“The Psychology course was passed by a majority. Only seven teachers dissented. More than 40 teachers, who were also part of the meeting, have approved it. We will now try to get the remaining two courses passed. We hope we will get the support of the teachers,” said Prof HS Prasad, dean, Faculty of Arts.

However, many members raised concerns about the constitution of the meeting.

“While the statute 9 of the University clearly states that a representation from all colleges in which the course is being taught is mandatory, representatives of 25 colleges were missing. The decisions taken in such a meeting are invalid,” said Nandita Narain, a member of Joint Action Body, a body of teachers that has been opposing the semester system.

Teachers also alleged that the syllabus was not put to vote. Prasad, however, said that the meeting went off smoothly and there were very few objections raised.
