Earlier, in a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting, Congress members objected to the presence of Rai when Singh was called for deposition, forcing it to be called off.

Apart from seeking explanations on how the notional loss of 2G spectrum allocation was escalated to Rs 1.76 lakh crore from an initial estimate of R2,640 crore, the auditors may also have to explain on who should have taken the final call in preparing the 2G audit.

As reports suggest that Rai overruled the initial estimate and preferred to peg the loss at 1.76 lakh crore, the JPC may try to find out who-among the director general audit (P&T) or the CAG-should have had the final say.
