Rs 5 lakh for dead, 50,000 for injured

The Delhi Metro announced a compensation of Rs five lakh for the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for those injured in the collapse of its underconstruction bridge in New Delhi.

The Delhi Metro on Sunday announced a compensation of Rs five lakh for the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for those injured in the collapse of its underconstruction bridge in the national capital.

"Rs five lakh will be given to the families of both, the driver of a blueline bus and the labourer who were killed in the mishap," DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal told reporters.

He said Rs 50,000 each as ex-gratia will be provided to the injured. "We assure 100 per cent cooperation, support and maximum care for those who are undergoing treatment in hospitals," he said.

Twenty eight-year-old Surinder Kumar, who was driving a bus and Chotte Lal, a labourer of the AFCONS company, which is undertaking the construction works, were killed when a concrete slab from the bridge fell over it on Vikas Marg in Lakshmi Nagar area at about 7:05 am this morning.

Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said 17 people were injured in the mishap.
