Running late, NDMC stalls restoration of facade in CP

Even after missing several deadlines, the restoration work in Connuaught Place seems far from complete.

On Thursday, a day before the deadline for its completion, last-minute work was still being carried out in the market. What's more, with barely 23 days to go for the Commonwealth Games, a cleaning drive has been launched to make the market spic and span.
However, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), which is restoring the market, has decided to carry out whitewash on the Regal Building Block in Connaught Circus as façade restoration work could not be carried here due to shortage of time.
While new windows have been placed and painted over, the facade restoration work will now be carried after the Games are over.
"The rain has led to the delay. We will carry out other work only during the dry season," said a worker who was carrying out the whitewashing.
The traders of Connaught Place will carry out a cleaning drive under the campaign of "Meri Delhi, Meri Yamuna", an Art of Living initiative. The drive will start at 9.30 am on Friday.
