Sabharwal murder case still a mystery

Delhi Police has declared a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone who gives information about Thursday’s murder of Parvinder Kumar Singh (32), reports HT Correspondent.

They have also sought help from residents of Mall Apartments near Delhi University to seek some clues. Singh was found stabbed to death near the apartments on Thursday night.

Singh, an accountant and a close associate of Himanshu Sabharwal, son of Ujjain Professor H.S. Sabharwal who allegedly died of beatings and assaults by ABVP activists in August 2006.

So far the police have not found any eyewitness to the crime even though Singh was murdered on a busy stretch.

Police said they were working on two definite leads in the case but refused to divulge details.

The police have also interrogated the security guard who was the last person to see Singh when he had gone to get his motorcycle from the parking lot at the Faculty of Law around 10.45 p.m. on Thursday.

“We have declared a reward of Rs 50,000 to any person who will give us information pertaining to the murder,” said Karnal Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police (northern range).

The Special Cell of Delhi Police has also been roped in to conduct investigations.

The post mortem report of Singh revealed that he died of the stab wound inflicted on the right side of his skull,

police said.

The mobile phone number scribbled on a DND flyway ticket that was placed under keys and kept on Singh’s motorcycle has not been found of any relevance, police said.

“We checked the phone number, it is not of any consequence,” said the officer.

Police on Saturday interrogated Himanshu Sabharwal and his fiancé Garima Sharma at length.

The other two — Pooja Gaur, a documentary filmmaker, and Mohammad Saif, an English Honours student at Ramjas College who were last seen with Singh when they had gone to paste posters at DU for a peace march — were also

interrogated.

“Police called me to corroborate the sequence of events. I am working with the police to provide leads into the case. Police have termed it as a blind murder case. I was the second last person to see him alive,” Himanshu Sabharwal told Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile around 200 members and supporters of National Students Union of India

(NSUI) held a protest near Delhi University Arts Faculty at North Campus on Saturday.

They demonstrated against Singh’s death.

“We feel that Parvinder Singh’s murder is no

ordinary murder. It was pre-planned. We demand justice for him,” said Anand Pandey, general secretary, NSUI.
