"I began playing badminton in Class 5, so I could not spend much time in the classroom. But my teachers were extremely supportive," recalled Nehwal.

She studied at the Campus School in Hisar, Haryana, from Class 1 to 4 and later went to the Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan in Hyderabad.

"Rani ma'am, who taught us Maths in the senior classes, was my favourite. She made the subject so easy to understand. She was very fond of me and encouraged me to excel in every sphere," Nehwal reminisced.

Referring to Teachers' Day celebrations at her school, she said, "I never got the chance to dress up as a teacher, but I remember senior students coming to our classes and teaching us. They would crack jokes, sing songs with us and play games."

Nehwal, who misses her teachers, also said she would love to meet them all some day.

"My teachers have called me many times and expressed the desire to meet me. I, too, am quite keen on meeting them. I'm still in touch with Rani ma'am. She visits us often," she said.
