A two-year-old boy was crushed to death by an over-speeding Santro car in Karol Bagh on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the boy who had gone with his father to a nearby shop, was first hit by the car. He then got crushed under the rear wheel of the car when the driver tried to flee from the spot.
“At around 2.30pm on Saturday, I had gone to a nearby shop to buy some household items along with my two-year-old son Bhanu Pratap. As I was paying cash to the shopkeeper, a speeding Santro car hit my son,” said Bharat Singh, who is the personal secretary of an income tax official in the ministry of finance.
“Everything happened in front of my eyes. As I rushed to his aid, the driver tried to flee and reversed the car. In the process, my son came under the rear wheel of car,” Singh added.
Bhanu Pratap was first rushed to a nursing home from where he was shifted to the BL Kapoor Memorial hospital. “The doctors declared him dead on arrival. I cannot believe he is no more,” Singh said.
Singh is a resident of Dev Nagar in Karol Bagh and the driver of the car too lives in the same area.
“The incident has been reported to us, following which we have arrested the driver, identified as Rajeev Giri (22),” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered against him in the Prasad Nagar police station and further investigations are on.
“On colony roads, one should have drive sensibly. Pedestrian movement is quite high in
such areas and over-speeding should be made a criminal offence. My child lost his life for no fault of his,” Singh said. Bhanu was the eldest of Singh's two sons.
