The SC bench directed the Centre to devise a plan to establish the prisoners' identity to facilitate their deportation.

The court's direction came during the hearing of a petition seeking repatriation of Pakistani prisoners who have completed their sentence but continue to live in Indian jails.

But the court said it wasn't possible to send them back until their identities were established and that the governments of both nations will have initiate steps at the highest level.
