SC issues notice to Gujarat govt, Centre on Ishrat case

The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Centre and Gujarat government on a petition challenging the High court order staying the magisterial probe into the killing of Ishrat Jahan by police in an alleged encounter.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Centre and Gujarat government on a petition challenging the High court order staying the magisterial probe into the killing of Ishrat Jahan by police in an alleged encounter.

A Bench comprising Justices B N Agrawal and Aftab Alam sought response from the state government and the Centre on the petition filed by the family members of Ishrat Jahan.

The court posted the matter after four weeks.

Shamima Kaushar filed the petition, mother of Ishrat.

Ishrat was among four persons killed in an encounter on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.
