The BYPL, in an affidavit, assured the court that its dispute with DVC will in no way affect power supply to consumers in the national capital.

A three-judge bench of justices D K Jain, A R Dave and S J Mukhopadhayay passed the direction after senior counsel Shyam Divan could not give any assurance despite repeated queries from the court on the issue of clearing arrears.

"Are they prepared to make the payment or not? We want the company officials to make a statement on the issue," the bench said.

After the counsel and the company officials present in the court failed to give any categorical assurance on the issue, the court directed the CFOs of the discoms to make a statement before it, on Thursday.

Delhi Government counsel Wasim Ahmed Quadri told the apex court that the authorities were making efforts to resolve the issue amicably.
