The party brass called an emergency meeting on Tuesday to chalk out their strategy.

The MCD leader of the House Subhash Arya and other leaders met the civic body's commissioner, K.S. Mehra, to discuss how to expedite their projects.

"We have divided our work into short-term goals to be achieved in a month and long-term goals that will be completed within a year or two," said leader of the MCD House, Subhash Arya.

"We have asked the executive wing to hire labour on contract to reconstruct broken pavements and central verges. Potholes will be filled up without disturbing routine work of the permanent staff who are repairing roads," Arya said.

Most of the agency's projects like parking, new sanitary landfill sites, door-to-door garbage collection are yet to take off.

Arya said all storm water drains would also be inspected in two days.

"Currently, our staff is removing silt from the storm water drains. We have given fresh instructions that if needed, workers should be hired on contract to clean the drains," added Arya.

The civic body has also decided to plant bamboos on all their sanitary landfills sites to reduce the stench and promote greenery.

The MCD is also planning to construct 1,000 urinal blocks that do not need water.
