On Thursday, a shoe was thrown at Geelani during a function in the Capital after a group of people, including Kashmiri Pundits, staged a strong protest against his presence.

The protesters numbering around 70 shouted slogans asking him to leave. They raised slogans and created ruckus at the convention on 'Azaadi - The Only Way'. Amid the pandemonium, someone threw a shoe towards Geelani who was on the dais. But it missed him.

The security personnel in order to protect the leaders on the dais immediately created a human chain around them. "We detained around 70 people but later released them," said a senior police officer.

The J&K People's Forum has filed a complaint at Tilak Marg police station alleging that Geelani disrespected the national flag.
