Sikh body asked to reveal info under RTI
The Central Information Commission has termed the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee as a public body established by an Act of Parliament and has asked it to disclose information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
"The Committee is directed to ensure that the necessary infrastructure mandated under the RTI Act is established and made operational within one month," said Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah.
The Commission said that the Committee, established by Parliament, was a public authority and it was required to appoint a Public Information Officer to deal with RTI applications.
The Commission's order came on a petition filed by Lt Col Avtar Singh Berar (retd), who pointed out that the Committee did not have an Information Officer.
He had moved an application before the President of the DSGMC seeking the name and address of Public Information Officer and the Appellate Authority but failed to get a response.
