“Congress is not against the formation of Telangana. We are in the process of taking a decision…but the formalities have to be completed,” party spokesperson PC Chacko said.

The remarks came as party MPs Manda Jagannatam, Sircilla Rajaiah, Ponnam Prabhakar, Sukhender Reddy, Rajgopal Reddy and Dr G Vivekanand submitted their resignations to party chief Sonia Gandhi. ''Our fight to achieve Telangana would continue,'' Vivekanand said.

Meanwhile, One MP Madhu Yashki stated that resignations are not a solution to achieve separate state, more so when there are positive indications.

To press for their demand, leaders from various parties are referring to Sonia’s speech at an election rally in 2009 in Andhra Pradesh where she said that her party has no objections to the formation of Telangana.

At the party briefing, Chacko created a flutter when he said the Congress was “in favour” of Telangana and that “it's only a question of time” when the decision will be announced.

Asked if it was just a matter of time before Telangana will be announced, Chacko said: “You are right. We have taken a stand. Party position is very clear….but some constitutional obligations have to be discussed with stakeholders”. However, he later corrected himself, saying his “only submission was that the party was not against Telangana”.
