The Indian Premier League (IPL) seems to have become a potential goldmine for punters in Delhi as the police recently busted six people for allegedly organising betting rackets on the ongoing cricket extravaganza.

In a surprise swoop at a Sector 15 flat in Rohini on May 1, the police arrested six people who were allegedly running stakes on a match between Hyderabad Deccan Chargers and Punjab King's XI.

“A match was on. Six mobile phones were strewn around. We also seized Rs 75,000 of betting money,” said Anil Shukla, DCP Crime Branch. One of the accused, Rajeshwer Singh, had been involved in betting in the past, police said.

This apart, police also arrested four persons for organising bets on a match between the Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings. Using an officer as a decoy customer, the Anti-Roibbery Cell of the Crime Branch nabbed the alleged racket, which was operating out of Ekta Enclave in Peera Garhi.

“The decoy was asked to bet Rs 2,000 on the possibility that the Chennai team would score 75 in 10 overs. We made a move the moment the bet was accepted,” he said.

From the two raids the police seized 11 mobile phones, 2 TV set with remote, one recording machine, one set top box, a calculator and Rs 75000 in cash.
