The 26-year-old was travelling at 200kmph when his Rs 3.5-crore Italian super car climbed a lane separator, rammed a bus stop railing and then a traffic pole on the BRT corridor in south Delhi on Sunday. Rishi, who wasn't belted in, was thrown out of the car, which was left in a mangled heap.

"Delhi roads aren't fit for sports cars. The height of the BRT lane separator is low and one can easily climb it. Since the (car's) ground clearance was low, the lower part got stuck in the separator," a police officer said.

"Since the car can hit 100 kmph in a little over three seconds, there was probably very little time to react and the driver lost control," automobile expert Tutu Dhawan said.

The Lamborghini is registered in the name of PC Jewellers. The owners sold the car to Rishi after finding it difficult to handle. "We bought this car in November 2011 but soon realised Delhi roads are not fit for it," a PC Jeweller spokesperson said. "Rishi was a family friend. He showed interest in the car and the process of transferring ownership was on when the incident took place."

Sources said Rishi's family was not aware of the deal as he never brought the car home.

Rishi was heading the business development of MVL, a Rs 1,700-crore real estate company owned by his father, Prem Adip Rishi.
