On Sunday, the Pragati Maidan Metro station witnessed the highest footfall in the history of Delhi Metro. A mind-numbing number of 1.56 lakh people visited the metro station on their way to or back from the India International Trade Fair (IIFT). This was 22,000 people more than the footfall recorded on November 22 (Sunday), last year.
The overall ridership of the Delhi Metro stood at 12.23 lakh on Sunday, which is also the highest-ever ridership during the IITF over the previous years, Delhi Metro officials said. DMRC has been running an additional 23 trains making 100 extra trips every day.
As many as 43 additional manual token counters with separate counters for specific token denominations and destinations have been opened at the Pragati Maidan Metro station for all working days.
DMRC also deployed extra customer facilitation agents and security guards at various stations including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate and Pragati Maidan for guiding and managing the crowd.
