Suspicious? Wait till June to test your case
Don’t lie. You could just find yourself taking the lie-detector test next time around.
A unique non-profit non-government organization called Truth Labs, billed as a private forensic laboratory, is opening in Delhi in June.
It will provide scientific investigative reports with world-class quality to the common man.
It can be property disputes, cheating cases, embezzlement of funds or any thing. “A common man is either hesitant or afraid to go to the police or the judiciary unless it is that important,” said Dr KPC Gandhi, a former IGP of Andhra Pradesh. “There is always scope for an alternative way to resolve a dispute.”
Gandhi was instrumental in setting up the first ISO certified forensic laboratory at Hyderabad.
“With pro-active forensic science, one need not go to the police or the courts,” he said. “This will not just save time and energy, but also decrease burden on government machinery.”
Hyderabad's Truth Labs was set up in October 2007 and has dealt with 300 cases till now.
Gandhi cited the example of a case where the head of a family and his daughter-in-law accused each other of sexual advances. “The son approached Truth Labs and it was established, with the help of lie-detector tests, that the father-in-law was the culprit,” he said.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said private experts are already available in the Capital for verification of documents and signatures. “However, DNA tests conducted by these labs can be of good use to the public,” he said.
The Hyderabad model has been so successful that even the courts in Andhra Pradesh have started referring property disputes to Truth Labs.
It has a group of eminent people who have headed various government services like the Judiciary, Police, Education and Forensic Science.
