Suu Kyi’s meeting with foreign secretary Nirupama Rao and other MEA officials at her Yangon residence joyfully refreshed memories of New Delhi, old friends and associations.
“She enquired at length about Congress president and sent warm greetings. She fondly recalled her days in Delhi and her friendship with late Rajiv Gandhi,” said an official.
Suu Kyi has had a long association with New Delhi.
Her mother Khin Kyie was appointed Burmese ambassador to India and Nepal in 1960 and the present Congress headquarter, 24 Akbar Road, was their residence. Suu Kyi had studied at the Jesus and Mary School and then at Lady Shri Ram College.
