Residents of Kalkaji Extension have harrowing tales to narrate about the condition of roads in their colony. For the past 10 years, residents here have been hoping to get repair work done but it is yet to materialise.

CP Khanna (80) has made numerous rounds of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) offices, complaining about the bad condition of roads.

But till date, no action has been taken.

“The state of roads in our colony has deteriorated over time; they have not been re-laid for a decade. We have written a number of letters to MCD officials and even municipal councillors. But no action has been taken so far. So much money is lying unused. Why don’t they use it to fix roads?” asked Khanna, president of Kalkaji Extension’s Resident Welfare Association (RWA).

A number of senior citizens of the colony have also been injured in the past due to the poor condition of roads. The problem worsens since due to poor visibility, the elderly are not able to spot potholes.

“A number of residents have been injured in the past. Whenever it rains, the situation becomes more difficult. For so many years, we have been forced to use these bad roads. Driving on these roads is a nightmare,” said Simran Kumar, a resident of the colony.
