Once the girl found out the tantrik’s true colours, he threatened to kill her. According to the police, the tantrik, identified as Dharam Prakash, had been sexually assaulting the girl for three months.

The victim told the police that she and her family members had been visiting the Triveni Balaji temple located on Lucknow Road for the past few years. “Prakash told the girl’s parents that she was under stress and he could cure her. The girl then started visiting him,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.

“Prakash offered her prasad laced with sedatives, after which she would become unconscious,” the officer added. He would then rape her. The police officer said that when the girl would wake up and feel tired, the priest would pass it off as a consequence of stress and convince her that she would be cured soon. Recently, though, the victim found out that she was being raped and confronted Prakash, who threatened her not to talk about it.

“He told her he had made a film which he would circulate in the market if she complained to the police,” the officer added. It turned out the wolf in priest’s clothing had recorded the entire act through a hidden camera in his room inside the temple complex. Prakash then went on to threaten to kill the girl.

However, the girl’s family, which resides in Timarpur, complained to the police on May 15, after which the priest was arrested and a CD recovered from him.

“We are now investigating if he had made other CDs and there were other victims,” the officer further said.

A case under section 376 (rape), 328 (intent to poison) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Timarpur police station.
