A 19-year-old boy allegedly killed his father by striking a hammer on his head in their east Delhi home, police say on Tuesday.

Pooran Chand, 45, an employee with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), was found dead by his wife Rekha, a housemaid in Lajpat Nagar, after she returned from work on Monday night at their Trilokpuri residence.

According to police, Deepak killed his father after a heated argument as Pooran Chand scolded him for being jobless. He later dumped the body in a room and locked it from outside.

Deepak asked the family members not to open the room till midnight as he had sprayed insecticides in it, and then ran away from the house, police said.

"We have registered a case and are conducting raids to trace the boy," a police official said.
