Though the statements made during a test cannot be treated as evidence, incriminating material like a murder weapon recovered with the help of the revelations can be evidence.

CBI had carried out the tests on Nupur Talwar between February 8 and 12 and on Rajesh Talwar between February 15 and 20. The agency had conducted brain-mapping and lie detector tests on the Talwars in 2009.

Aarushi (14) and the family’s domestic help Hemraj were found murdered at their Noida house on May 16, 2008 but the CBI has not been able to nail the killers yet.

The CBI had on January 5 this year sought permission from a Ghaziabad court to conduct the tests on the couple after getting their consent.

The CBI move to conduct the tests on Talwars had put the needle of suspicion back on the dentist couple, who had earlier been given a clean chit by the investigating agency.

Narco analysis involves psychotherapy, which is conducted while the patient is deeply sedated with medication so that inhibitions are reduced and responses are truthful.
