Third cut-off list: DU aspirants left with little choice

While most off-campus colleges have seats in coveted courses like B Com (honours), English and others, campus colleges have come out with the third list in courses such as BA (programme), Philosophy, Hindi and Sanskrit.

The third cut-off list declared by the Delhi University is likely to get a mixed response from students.

In off-campus colleges seats were available in courses such as BA (programme), B Com Programme, B Com (honours), Hindi and Sanskrit. At Sri Venketeswara College, most humanities courses are available.

In Hansraj and Kirori Mal colleges, seats are available in B Com (honours). While at KMC, a marginal dip of 0.25% has been seen in the cut-off, Hansraj College has again refused to bring down the cut-off from 95.75%.

“We are left with only 2-3 seats and even if we lower the percentage by .25%, which is minimum, we will get a sea of students who we wont be able to accommodate,” said NK Jain, teacher in-charge of B Com, Hansraj College.

At Kirori Mal College, however, only six students have been admitted in the course so far.

“We are sure we will get more students after this list,” said a teacher who did not want to be named.

Economics (honours), however was closed in all colleges — barring five colleges, including Sri Venkateswara, where the cut-off stands at 93.5% — a drop of 0.5%.

Humanities
While most colleges closed admissions in courses such as political science, history and psychology, these courses were open in Lady Shri Ram College.

In psychology, which is among the most sought after courses in the college, a drop of 0.25% was seen.

Hindi and sanskrit, like previous years, remained the least popular subjects with most colleges declaring third cut-offs, albeit with percentage drops of 1% to 2%.

Sciences
Aspirants hoping to take admission in science courses, however, have very limited choices. The only courses that are open in most colleges is BSc botany (honours), physical sciences and life sciences.

Coveted courses such as physics (honours), chemistry (honours) and zoology (honours) are closed.

In Hindu, Hansraj and Lady Shri Ram College BSc (maths and statistics) are open.

In off-campus colleges, the trend is opposite with most colleges closing admissions for science in the third list.
