As Singh made a round of Gaffar Market in the evening, a deafening blast lifted him off the ground. He suffered multiple fractures, a head injury and a punctured lung. Forty-eight hours later, Singh was still battling for life at Jeevan Mala Hospital.

An only son, Singh lives with his mother and maternal uncle in East Patel Nagar. His father had died when he was 12. “In two days my life has turned upside down. I am desperate to save my son’s life,” said Rosy Arora, Singh’s mother.

Singh has already been through one operation for his head injury and was scheduled to undergo another surgery of the femur on Monday. Doctors say that even if he moves out of danger, it will be months before he fully recovers.

The family survives on Singh’s income supplemented by his mother’s petty job at Law Arcade, Pusa Road.
