“Generally, ‘spot’ FIR’s are not registered in power theft cases but this will surely act as a deterrent,” said a senior BSES official.

In one case, an FIR was filed against a Mayur Vihar resident for stealing electricity for his three houses. “In Mayur Vihar’s Trilokpuri, BSES Yamuna Power Limited’s team conducted inspection of three houses. The owner was caught stealing electricity. None of his three houses had a meter. He was taking electricity from the nearby BSES’ LV mains,” said the official.

In another case, thefts were unearthed in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar.
