The MCD had on November 18 issued notices to 60 guest houses in the busy central Delhi locality warning that sealing action will be carried out against them if they fail to register themselves by today.

Asked from when the civic body will initiate action against the unregistered guest houses, Deputy Commissioner of Sadar Paharganj zone Renu Jagdev said, "We are waiting for their replies to our notices. Once we receive their replies, we will initiate the necessary action on a case-to-case basis."

There are a total of 400 guest houses in Paharganj, of which 150 do not have licences from the MCD, officials said. The notice was sent to the 60 guest houses by the assistant engineer of the Building Department of Sadar Paharganj zone.

The guest house owners claim that they did not register themselves because they come under the 'special area' designated in the Delhi Master Plan-2021.

The status quo has to be maintained till the Master Plan is approved by the Supreme Court, say office-bearers of hotel associations.
