Responding to reports of tensions between the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the ruling party was mistreating its allies.

"A lot of things which were under the carpet are coming out. Many allies are not happy with the Congress," Hussain said.

"They (Congress) have been pressurising their allies, they did it in the presidential poll as well... UPA government is in difficulty now because none of its allies are happy with it," he said.

"None of the allies are going to stick with them for long," he added.

The NCP on Friday said it was unhappy with the way the government was being run. Party leader Praful Patel, however, denied reports of quitting the cabinet and said discussions had been held with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
