Stressing on India’s commitment to ratify the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage (CSC) and work closely with that country’s companies, outgoing US ambassador to India Timothy Roemer hoped that civil nuclear agreement with the US will move in a “positive direction”

“I want to say that the US and the Obama administration strongly and vehemently support the clean waiver for India. The 123 civil nuclear legislation also underscores our support for India in this debate that is going on and our law also points to the clean waiver for India,” Roemer told reporters here on his last day in office.

The 46-member Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) last week decided to make its guidelines stringent, raising questions about the clean waiver given to India in 2008. The waiver allows the member countries to give sensitive technologies to India.

Roemer said in the last two years, there have been “significant success in the relationship between India-US relationship.”

“We have seen Prime Minister Singh being honoured in the first state dinner given by the Obama administration. We saw the US President coming to India with a historic and landmark visit talking about India’s global relationship with our country”, he recalled.
