She did not let her fear or anger get the better of her despite being raped several times. The accused first raped her in a moving vehicle on their way to a predestined hideout in Mongolpuri Industrial area where she was raped multiple times again. After raping her the accused left her and fled in their pick-up van.

“Even after going through so much, she mustered the courage and tried to ascertain her location. She noticed a dimly lit godown with a signboard carrying a Mongolpuri address. She immediately called up her colleague and then the police to inform them about her location,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (South).

When HT contacted her she refused to speak.

“She is a strong person and has shown a great deal of resilience. She is traumatised but is dealing with the situation courageously,” said a psychologist who counselled her immediately after the incident.

Police said they would release the portraits of the five accused that they were preparing with the victim’s help.

Police said they were going through the dossiers of people who have been caught earlier for similar crimes.

Meanwhile, women from the northeast said they were harassed regularly.

Mercy Kipza (28), a stock broker said, “The government needs to deploy women security officials across the city. I have never dared to venture out alone after 8pm.”

Tsewang Gyaltsan, (20), a student of Delhi School of Economics added, “Being from the northeast, I have been a victim of harassment in Delhi. Strengthening civil forces should go hand in hand with imparting education on the same.”

Tenzin (26) a researcher added, “Security forces need to be more vigilant and accountable. Only after their callous attitude changes can the city be made safer.”
