“They tortured me. My hands were tied on my back and I was made to bend. My feet were tied with a weight,” Ashu, who was 20-years-old at that time said in his statement before the sessions court of Patiala on September 3, 2002.
Ashu submitted before the court that when it became unbearable for him he started crying and was brought down by the policemen, who kept abusing him in the process.
“After some time S.P.S. Rathore also came...he asked the police officials as to whether they have served (punished) me. They told Rathore that they will still torture me,” he said.
He was giving an account of what happened inside the police post in Mansa Devi where he was kept after being picked up by on October 23, 1993.
Ashu alleged that police officials threatened him for entering into a dispute with Rathore.
“Rathore used to enquire from me if I have changed my mind or not...He also told me that my father would not be able to bear the torture that I was going through,” he said.
Ashu said he was taken to his house by the cops who abused him in front of his sister and father. Once his house was searched, he was taken back to the station after being paraded in the street handcuffed.
