Woman dead, man critical after jumping from flyover
A couple jumped from a flyover on to the railway tracks in Shadipur on Saturday night after their parents objected to their plans to get married.
A couple jumped from a flyover on to the railway tracks in Shadipur on Saturday night after their parents objected to their plans to get married.
“The man and the woman allegedly jumped together near the Shadipur Depot. The woman died on the spot but the man is still fighting for his life at RML Hospital. His condition is serious,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
The police said Aashu (23), a resident of Baljeet Nagar, and Rishu (22), a resident of Ranjeet Nagar, wanted to get married but their families objected to their association.
"They tried to convince their parents but were not successful. Finally, the two decided to end their life by committing suicide," added the officer.
Aashu, in his statement to the police, reportedly said they took the step on their own and were not forced by anyone, police said.
