Women’s insecurities must end, says Dikshit

The CM expressed concerned over the rising cases of women being abducted, molested and even gangraped — some of them in a moving car — in the city.

Venting her ire at the prevailing law and order situation following several incidents of crime against women, Dikshit on Monday asked the city police to take effective steps to enhance security for Delhi's women.

"I told the police commissioner to enhance security for women. Safety of women is paramount. The atmosphere of insecurity among them must come to an end," she said when asked to comment about several incidents of crime against women in the past few days.

While police commissioner BK Gupta, in his recent press conference, tried to impress that crime in Delhi had come down, Dikshit refused to go by police's statistics and said concrete steps were needed to make women feel "safe and secure".

A young woman returning home from work was chased and abducted by five youths after a verbal duel in the early hours of Sunday but was dramatically rescued after a long chase by Delhi police in Aya Nagar area in South Delhi.
