In 2016, the Vengara assembly seat had 1,69,616 registered voters. Of the, 86,921 were male and 82,695 were female voters. 0.3% of votes were casted for NOTA.
In the 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election, there were 6 candidates in the fray from Vengara constituency. Vengara was one of 18 seats won by the Communist Party Of India (Marxist). It was a one way contest with Indian Union Muslim League's P.K. Kunhalikkutty comfortably winning the election upstaging Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s Adv. P.P. Basheer by a huge margin of 38,057 votes.
The top two candidates split 88.8% of votes between them. Indian Union Muslim League's P.K. Kunhalikkutty got a total of 72,181 votes, while Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s Adv. P.P. Basheer secured 34,124 votes. Bharatiya Janta Party's candidate P.T. Ali Haji secured 7,055 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 60.3%, 28.5% and 5.9% respectively.
In Kerala Assembly election 2011, Muslim League Kerala State Committee's P.K.Kunhalikutty outperformed Indian National League's K.P.Ismayil by 38,237 votes.
