West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee appealed for calm after reports of violence emerged from a polling station in in Sitalkuchi. "I would ask everyone to remain calm and cast their vote peacefully. Avenge the deaths by defeating them," Banerjee said at a public meeting. (Twitter.com/ANI)

The voting is underway amid tight security arrangements. As many as 789 companies of central armed police forces (CAPF) have been deployed to guard 15,940 polling stations. (PTI)
