Many women celebrities have had to take a difficult decision after facing violence at the hands of their partners. While Mookhey and Lawson battle it out with their allegedly abusive ex-husbands-to-be, one wonders if their lives are any different from the ordinary?
Former Miss World Yukta Mookhey in a recent interview with TOI revealed personal details about her marital life with New York based businessman Prince Tuli. "If you don't get intimidated by his threats, then he will sexually and physically assault you," she states deadpan.
Mookhey, who has filed for divorce, added: "He physically traumatised and manhandled the child, which is never in favour of the welfare of a kid. He has abused me mentally, socially and emotionally and would yell at me in front of the kid throwing him around."
"In her complaint, Ms Mookhey alleged she had often been beaten up and troubled by her husband Prince Tuli. An FIR has been registered under Section 498A (cruelty and harassment) and Section 377 (unnatural sex) of Indian Penal Code after her complaint yesterday," a police officer told PTI.
Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson is also seeking divorce from her husband and advertising tycoon Charles Saatchi of Saatchi and Saatchi. Lawson was spotted having a meal with her husband at their favourite restaurant when he suddenly grabbed her neck on camera.
Saatchi has now declared to the media that he is disappointed at his wife not clearing the air about the incident. Circumstantial evidence is not in his favour now, is it?
Singer Rihanna and her on and off boyfriend Chris Brown are known for the abusing nature of their relationship. Rihanna was allegedly assaulted by Brown and bore the marks of abuse on her face. A "guilty" Brown turned himself in to police claiming that he was sorry.
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry admitted to having lost the capacity to hear from one ear due to the physical abuse inflicted upon her. Without disclosing the name of the perpetrator, Berry has confirmed that the person in question was an ex-boyfriend. The actress continues to campaign against domestic violence having understood the need to talk for change.
Rahul Mahajan, son of Promod Mahajan, taking inspiration from Rakhi Sawant's swayamvar, took to television to find himself a bride over a series called Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega. Dimpy Ganguly, who won the series, married Mahajan but soon after came out in public about Rahul's abusive nature. Unsurprisingly, Mahajan’s ex-wife Shweta Singh had also accused him of violent behaviour.
The Tera Chehra and Lift Karade famed singer Adnan Sami had to divorce his wife Sabah Galadari after she filed a case under Domestic Violence Act. Incidentally, this was the second time Sami had married and divorced Sabah within the span of a decade.
Hollywood beauty Denise Richards was also in an abusive marriage with her ex-husband Two and a Half Men Charlie Sheen. Sheen, who is known for his inappropriate conduct and unprofessionalism proved dangerous when he threatened to kill Richards during their marriage.
