Lara Dutta on her fitness line

It’s been a crazy two weeks here at Bheegi Basanti, my production house. Two maiden projects were kickstarted — my fitness and holistic lifestyle DVD series under the helm of H.E.A.L with Lara (H.E.A.L stands for Health, Exercise and Longevity) and our first home production called Chalo Dilli, which we are currently shooting for in Jaipur. It’s not just been crazy and a perpetual high, but it’s been quite a journey of self-discovery as well.

I was asked in my fan mail and on Twitter what I did to stay fit and maintain my body. I have had a consistent body shape and type ever since I entered the industry and even for me, it has not been something that came easy, but a holistic process that I chose to adopt as a lifestyle. Women everywhere kept asking me my fitness mantra and it was this that laid the foundation for my DVD series.
When I started my journey of delving into the realm of keeping the body, mind and spirit fit, I was aided by Zareen Watson and Tonia Clark. We were governed by one common thought — to keep it simple, easily achievable and to open ourselves to just about everybody — fat, thin, young, old, injured or otherwise.
With Zareen, Tonia and me, it has been a journey of self-discovery and the product is right in front of your eyes to try and test. Every single individual operates on different beliefs, ideologies and motivations. Everyone is unique, special and shows characteristics, which, on an intrinsic level, differentiate one from the other. So, the “one size fits all” model is a farce.
Just like Zareen and Tonia would customise workouts for me on the basis my body and my mood, I too wanted to provide an experience that can be followed taking into consideration each person’s body type, workout inclination and mood. You cannot be pounding the treadmill every single day! But, you can achieve your best for that particular moment and day in a work-out that is suitable for that time.
Each person has a unique structure, bent of mind and ideology, which is theirs alone, and it is this uniqueness that needs to be tapped into in order for them to be the best. Through the DVD, I have strived to appeal to that very basic need within all of us — the need to be the best that we can be. We are not pitting against anybody else here — the score to settle is with ourselves, within ourselves. We should be our only benchmark. Be the best that you can be with the best that you have got!
