"He was carrying around 12 bags, out of which his personal belongings were in two bags that were held back at the airport," says a source close to the actor.

Reportedly, Ranbir and his alleged girlfriend, Katrina Kaif, had gone on a shopping spree to buy knick-knacks and accessories for his

, which led to them returning with too much luggage. "Once they landed in Mumbai, Ranbir rushed home, confident that his entourage would take care of the baggage," says the source.

However, they were stranded at the airport for almost five hours, before they finally headed home with all the luggage.

"Customs authorities had held back the bags and were refusing to release them, without giving any reason for the same," explains the source.

Eventually, the actor had to be called and informed about the situation. The source says, "Ranbir returned to the airport within a couple of hours. Once he spoke to the authorities, they released the luggage."

We tried reaching Ranbir, but he was unavailable for a comment.
