It has been a season of storms hither thither or Twitter.

Whilst many people waited with breath bated to keep a date with the Baap of Brewing Storms expected to engulf the north left right centre, it scooted hither thither off the epicentre, and played truant like political promises profuse, as it in the tricity did its death dance refuse.

That storm didn’t arrive, but what did arrive was a storm of star shaadis riding whirlwind romances, while elsewhere stars strutted to stir a storm of another sort – that which Cannes herald fashion thunder at the French Riviera yonder.

In this storm of shaadis, some nuptials came loudly trumpeted, like the tempest tidings travelling all over WhatsApp; some shaadis came veiled in secrecy, breaking “bombshells” out of the blue.

Sonam di Wedding

The Baap of all Storm Scares may have fizzled out, like thunder without rain, but the Maa of May Shaadis -- Sonam Kapoor’s Big Fat Tweet Wedding -- stirred up quite a storm in cyberia.

In a season when Sonam-starrer ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is slated to spice up the summer, it was the real rather than the reel nuptials that took Twitter by storm. Video footage of her wedding went viral at a speed faster than the time Sonam may have taken to swap sartorial finery.

Tweeple frenziedly flipped into forwarding mode vying to be the first to tweet videos of her “jaimala’ or sangeet, as if it were a much-awaited flick, a la “Avengers…”, with all making a mad scramble for first day, first show.

This was thus more a storm that came riding ‘Viral si Wedding’.

Singh is Kinng

In this storm of star shaadis, as all eyes stood riveted on the Mother of May Weddings, Tweeple missed the whirlwind courtship brewing on the sidelines – Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi getting hitched hush-hush.

It resembled a scenario when everybody sets sights on Chris Gayle during IPL to deliver a Gayle “storm”, only to realise that it’s raining sixes, but from other quarters -- an M.S. Dhoni or a Shreyas Iyer.

Or, it was akin to an audience fixing its gaze on the showstoppers on stage at an awards nite, only to find the real action brewing backstage -- Salman Khan prancing ‘n’ popping from nowhere at the back or Katrina pirouetting on a pole to land unexpectedly amid backbenchers.

Neha Dhupia relived in real the title of her reel role when she found her “Singh is Kinng” in actor Angad Bedi. They triggered a Twitter storm with joint nuptial tidings ‘two good’:

“Marrying your best friend is one of the greatest feelings in the world ….”

As the newlyweds broke Twitter not just with coordinated tweets but also color-coordinated shimmery pink ensembles, this made it a shaadi storm that spelt shades of ‘Singh is Bling.’

Cannes this be a storm!

This was a storm that wandered off from Indian soil to a foreign shore. If closer home it was about a Bollywood babe doing a “Singh is Kinng”, at the French Riviera it was about B-town belles Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone, Huma & Co stirring a storm with Indian bling.

From Kangana’s ‘lady in black’ debut in a Sabyasachi “Akash Tara” sari to Deepika painting the red carpet pink in origami plumage, Indian fashion on the French Riviera spectacularly strutted to come of age.

That’s a red-carpet storm that Cannes spell some thunder, some blunder.
