This style clearly belongs to the fashion goddesses! Actors Sonam Kapoor, Rakulpreet Singh and Shruti Hassan recently accessorised their saris with stylish belts.

The six-yard wonder has always been in fashion. We have seen various modern interpretations of the traditional Indian sari, but the elegance of the attire has never faded away. The current favourite of Bollywood’s fashion forwards is the belted sari. Actors Sonam Kapoor, Rakulpreet Singh and Shruti Hassan recently accessorised their saris with stylish belts.

“Goddess Saraswati, Durga and Lakshmi wear saris with kamarbandhs. This style is inspired by goddesses”, says designer Rina Dhaka

Experts say the style belongs to the goddesses! “I have a beautiful painting of goddess Saraswati in my room, wearing a watermelon pink belted sari. Even goddess Durga and Lakshmi wear saris with kamarbandhs. It’s a style inspired by goddesses,” says designer Rina Dhaka.

Designer Payal Khandwala says that the kamarbandh is making a comeback as belts worn over sari. “Kamarbandhs were a popular accessory that women used to team with saris. Belts can also similarly spice up a plain sari,” she says. Agrees designer Anupama Dayal. “I love belted saris. They work well for petite bodytypes.” For a formal look, designer Anavila Misra suggests teaming your belted sari with a shirt. “It will give a cool work vibe that’s organised and no-nonsense,” says Misra.
