Delhi’s most stylish
It’s time to raise a toast to the ten men and women of Delhi who redefined style in 2010.fashion and trends Updated: Dec 26, 2010 00:48 IST
The best style is the style you don’t notice. Somerset Maugham may not have uttered these words in the context of looks, but even when it comes to that, a big part lies in not making any attempt to show it off.
Delhi, despite being the fashion capital of the country, suffers from a popular perception of not having many who look stylish without making any effort to show it. As the leading lifestyle newspaper in the city, we took it up as a challenge to break that perception, and look for those in Delhi’s swish set, for whom style is a natural extension of their personality. We didn’t have to look too far to see men and women who are effortlessly and consistently stylish.
In our bid to figure out Delhi’s most stylish 2010 as the year comes to an end, the fashion and lifestyle team of HT City first drew up a list of 100 individuals from city, belonging to varied fields ranging from art and politics to design and sports, who possess a remarkable style quotient.
An expert jury, comprising four people who understand the nuances of fashion and style, was then constituted, which deliberated upon each short listed name over steaming cuppas of coffee and heated debates.
An elaborate and objective ranking system followed, which saw the jury members mark each shortlisted stylista over several parameters ranging from their dress sense and consistency of style, to their x-factor and overall personality. The brief was clear, being stylish was not just about being well dressed, it was about carrying off a great personality with elan and confidence.
Then emerged the winners — ten individuals whose style sense was undisputed and unique. Their dressing sense and personalities may be as varied as their professions — from a union minister to an industrialist and from a luxury baroness to a TV anchor, but they are all flag bearers of the fact that when it comes to elegant style, Delhi’s glitterati are right up there.
A glittering evening attended, amongst other eminent personalities of Delhi, by most of those who figured in the nominee list, was held on December 21 to raise a toast to Delhi’s most stylish men and women of 2010. A specially-framed collector’s edition of HT City featuring the most stylish, was then presented to these ten style icons. But, do they even know that the world calls them that? We discovered that they don’t. And that’s exactly why they are on our list.
