Fashion designer Tina Tandon is settled in New York and is proud of her Indian origin.

Posh Pari, her brand in New York, is all about Indian ethnic outfits, tailored with western sophistication. Tandon calls fashion an art form and considers herself an artist. “Fashion is part of culture — a reflection of the times and personality,” says the 31-year-old. Lakshmi is a frequent visitor at Tandon’s store in New York.

“Padma Lakshmi has a very strong personality and likes wearing comfortable and classic pieces with a twist,” says Tandon. The designer is also retailing in some stores in Delhi. Tandon draws a big line between the fashion scenarios of the two countries. “New York is all about simple sophistication.

People in India are very much into glamour, and opulence. If we talk about socialites, I must say, Priya Chatwal is really very stylish.” Talking about fashion blunders, Tandon says, “I wonder why women don’t wear clothes according to their body types. Also, over accessorising is blunder,” says Tandon.

Is Bollywood on her mind? “I would love to design for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor.” With this, she signs off.
