Indian women have always complained of love handles and broad hips. For many, being top-heavy has also proved to be a hindrance. “They are especially prone to developing it as they grow older. There are numerous fashion remedies to help a girl, but the best is, without doubt, exercise,” says designer Varun Bahl.

And it’s not just women.

Men too have often had to deal with shoulders that are too broad, legs that are too stumpy or just height that is less than impressive. Rocky S, along with Bahl, has some tips for them, but he stresses, “Regardless of what you are wearing, a confident stance is the best fashion tip.”

Tips for men by Rocky S

Broad shoulders: Always wear a collared shirt as collarless dress shirts enhance your broad shoulders. European cut jackets suit men with broader shoulders as they are less boxy and create a nice line.

Experiment with a darker colour palette. Prints are a big no no.

Stumpy legs: Guys with stumpy legs should avoid baggy, oversized jeans. Opt for well-fitted jeans. Shorts and bermudas also look good.

Short height: Choose denim or pants with a flat front. A slightly tapered T-shirt, casually worn, creates a different look. Vertical stripes make your torso look elongated and give you a taller look.

Hips: Wide and low-slung hips are a common problem that can be solved easily by adopting flattering cuts of skirts and wide-legged trousers.

A bias-cut, ankle-length skirt in silk is the best, and palazzo-style trousers in linen and cotton are also good. They hide the excess weight while giving length to the legs.

Bust: There is a thin line between being curvaceous and being busty. And if you fall in the second category, it’s imperative to stay away from tight, fitted styles. These can look vulgar.

Opt instead for flowing, kaftan-inspired styles or straight-cut tunics that sheath your figure instead of highlighting it.

Love Handles: These are the trickiest part of the body to, well, handle, when they grow out of proportion. They destroy that pleasing curvature and dip of the lower back, and spill out of the waistlines of your lowers.

The best solution is to opt for fabrics like silk, jersey and chiffon that will glide over the body without shaping along the curves of that area. Again, kaftan styles and trapeze dresses become your best friends.

Also try to stay away from fitted trousers that highlight the difference between your flabby waist and tapered legs.
