If you thought that only women were obsessed with their shoes, think again. While you’d find party-hopping celebrities in the same boring black leather shoes or Converse sneakers before, models, cricketers and actors are now sporting flashier footwear.

What a loafer
Enter the loafer. Available in every conceivable colour and style, the classic slip-on shoe seems to be the hottest trend for menswear.

Designer Varun Bahl admits that it’s their comfort factor and laidback luxury that gives them an edge over regular shoes. His line of loafers, designed in collaboration with Karan Johar, will soon be available after their fashion week debut in August.

While luxury fashion house Tod’s popularised the shoe in India, Tres Mode and Zara make more budget friendly versions. And don’t let your colour choices be boring. Eschew the usual black and brown. You could take a hint from model Shawar Ali and try on some white loafers for a take on Jeetendra or John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever.

Model Niketan Madhok elevates a simple ‘jeans and white shirt’ look by pairing it with mauve loafers. Cricketer Virat Kohli took his style off the feild by recently shopping at the Tod’s boutique, Nariman Point, in a pair of grey shoes.

TV actor Eijaz Khan showed his bold fashion side with a colour-popping pair of red shoes. You can also opt for loafers in coral, teal, royal blue and purple, as long as you manage to keep the rest of your wradrobe simple.
