Pop goes denim
Rainbow-hued jeans get thumbs up from divas this seasonUpdated: May 11, 2011 01:17 IST
Pack away those blues and blacks. It’s rainbow colours that you should be seen sporting on your legs this season. The very 80s, bold and sexy coloured jeans trend has returned in a chic, evolved and sexier avatar.
Actor Hayden Panettiere wore flaming red skinnies recently in New York City, while Ashley Greene too was spotted wearing a bright green pair. The Kardashian sisters have also embraced the pop trend — Khloe recently wore a Rag & Bone cropped electric blue jeans in Hollywood while Kim was spotted leaving JFK airport in a bright blue jeans paired with a black fitted jacket and white top. Closer home, Katrina Kaif was seen wearing shredded bright pink jeans while shooting for a film in Agra.
“We wore a lot of bright trousers in the 80s. Bright pink and citrus green were a great hit,” says designer Rina Dhaka. Designer Urvashi Kaur too feels that the trend had returned with a bang. “We’ve seen Sri Devi and Madhuri Dixit sport coloured lowers, but it was too loud and garish then. Now, it’s much more evolved and chic,” says Kaur.
However, to sport a coloured denim, one must have a well-toned body as the colour being bright, the entire attention is drawn towards your legs. You may not necessarily be tall but you do need a slim figure to wear coloured trousers as it tends to make your lower body look bigger. Those who want to play safe can team it up with nude, white or black tops.

Get the Look
Colour play: Go for colour blocking. “Red with blue or green with fuchsia look nice. But don’t mix up two thick fabrics,” says designer Rina Dhaka.
Footwear: Nude pumps, leopard print shoes or black booties work well with bright pants. Don’t try matching the colour of your footwear with your denim.
Avoid repeats: Steer clear of overdoing the look unless you are promoting kindergarten chic. Don’t match your bag with your trousers or wear an accessory of the same colour. “If you want to repeat the colour, use a lip colour or an eye shadow of the same shade,” says Designer Urvashi Kaur.
Peppy prints: Team up chiffon tops in peppy prints with coloured trousers.
